Reconceptualizing cultural narratives of mature women's sexuality in the Viagra era [An article from: Journal of Aging Studies] This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Aging Studies, published by Elsevier in 2007. Description: To date, women's accounts of sexuality and sexual changes in mid-later life have been neglected by both feminists and gerontologists. In addition, women's responses to male partners' use of sexuopharmaceuticals such as Viagra (as a ''solution'' for erectile changes affecting older men) have received little attention. This paper reports on a New Zealand-based research which involved in-depth interview with 27 women, in mid-later life, who were partners of men that used Viagra. We analyse the accounts of 15 women who discussed changes/'improvements' in their sexuality over the life course and with their partners' use of Viagra. Central to the accounts we present is an articulation of an active and desirous female sexuality in mid-later life. These narratives, we suggest, not only challenge the culture stereotype of mid-later life sexual decline for women, but also open up new spaces for feminist theorizing of heterosexuality and changing experiences of heterosexuality across the course.

Beyond Viagra; Plain Talk about Treating Male and Female Sexual Dysfunction Dr. Alfred Newman, a Montgomery, Alabama urologist and a leading expert on the treatment of sexual problems, has published Beyond Viagra: Plain Talk About Treating Male and Female Sexual Dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction affects an estimated twenty million men and a similarly large number of women in the United States today. Rapid advances have been made in methods of treatment over the past three decades, and in 1998 the "wonder drug" Viagra appeared.
Newman said he wrote his book to answer questions not only about Viagra but also about the many causes of sexual dysfunction and the range of treatments that are now available, including implants, injections, herbal medicine, and more. The book is written in language that can be easily understood by laypersons but has enough depth to make it a useful reference to general practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists, and others involved in the treatment of sexual problems.
Beyond Viagra: A Common-Sense Guide to Building a Healthy Sexual Relationship For Men & Women
After the hype, a thoughtful, responsible approach to improving sexual function. The viagra revolution is here, and while the drug truly can help many of the millions of Americans who seek it, it can create as many problems as it can cure. Here is the first book to help readers-men and women together-understand some of the common root causes of sexual dysfunction and determine whether the quick fix of Viagra will help them, or possibly make their situation worse. Dr. Melchiode, who participated in some of the early clinical trials of Viagra, gives the reader a tour of the sexual psyche, pointing out the obstacles and pitfalls posed by treatment, whether with drugs or through other means. Most important, he makes the critical point that men must involve their partners in the treatment, and offers sage advice on how to do so in a positive and loving manner. He also discusses such thorny issues as the role of the physician, the relationship with one's insurer or HMO, and the potential impact of Viagra-both good and bad-on male-female relations, and society in general.

Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman
Jamie Reidy is to the pharmaceutical business what Jerry Maguire was to professional sports and Frank Abagnale (Catch Me If You Can) was to bank fraud. He's the guy who's been there, done that, and walked away with the insider stories. You'll find yourself rooting for Reidy and at the same time, you'll be shocked by the realities of the world that paid his salary. Hard Sell is a witty expos© of an industry that touches nearly everyone in contemporary America. It reveals the questionable practices of drug reps, nurses, and even physicians. Reidy traces his ups and downs as a rep for giant drug manufacturer Pfizer, maker of some of the most widely prescribed and used drugs in existence, including Viagra. With equal parts self-confidence and self-mockery, Reidy tells it like it is in the drug-selling trenches that are our local doctors' offices. The result is a funny and fascinating book that will appeal to those with pharmaceutical sales experience, medical professionals, those who have tried Viagra, and any American unhappy with rising drug prices. Hard Sell will be an easy sale this season.
